Sources: Aston Villa offered Chelsea 2023 regular starter

Aston Villa and several other Premier League clubs have been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the 23-year-old and his representatives have been trying to secure him another move with Football Insider revealing (1 June) that Chelsea passed up the chance to sign him permanently following his loan at Stamford Bridge.

Felix netted four goals in 20 appearances across all competitions during his time with the Blues in the 2022-23 campaign.

Aston Villa are in the market for a new attacker in the summer window as they look to continue their progress under Unai Emery.

The Midlands giants will play Europa Conference League football next term – and can qualify for the group stage by overcoming a two-legged playoff in August.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Villa have refused to rule out a move for Felix despite his hefty reported wage of almost £244,000-a-week at Atletico Madrid.

The club are ambitious – and that was evidenced by their capture of Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona last year (2022).

Felix arrived at Chelsea on loan in January for a reported loan fee of almost £10million.

The switch happened after clashes between the forward and Atleti boss Diego Simeone – and it is believed he will seek an exit from the Wanda Metropolitano this summer.

Felix has managed 34 goals and 18 assists in 131 games across all competitions for the Madrid giants since joining them for a reported £111million in 2019.

The 30-cap Portugal international’s contract runs until June 2027 after Atleti chose to trigger a one-year extension clause in January.
