This may be real reason for Mings downfall after Aston Villa source’s reveal – ex-teammate

Alan Hutton has suggested a lack of concentration has been Tyrone Mings’ downfall at Aston Villa this season.

The former Villa star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted his ex-teammate, 29, would be disappointed with his form this term.

As revealed by Football Insider last week (18 April), Villa are in the market for a new left-sided centre-back this summer.

A club source told this site Steven Gerrard has prioritised signing an upgrade on Mings in a total overhaul of the squad.

Hutton admitted the centre-back has not been at his best this season.

He suggested lapses of concentration have let Mings down.

Asked if he thought Mings would be disappointed with his form, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think he will be.

“He’s the type of guy that will hold his hands up. He knows if he has a bad game or not. That’s how it has to be, especially when you’re the captain.

“You have to be able to take that kind of flak on the chin and keep moving forward. Personally, I don’t think he’s been at his best this season, I think he can do better.

“I think it boils down to a concentration thing with him. He’s got all the attributes to be a top centre-half.

“He’s physical, he’s strong, he’s quick, he’s good with the ball. It’s about staying 100 per cent focused for 95 minutes or however long.

“You can’t shut off for any length of time in the Premier League or you will get punished. That has happened.”

Mings has played 31 times across all competitions for Villa this season.

He has two years remaining on his contract.
