Frank McAvennie has backed Man City star Kyle Walker to join Aston Villa this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Walker will want to play every week and if Pep Guardiola can’t guarantee that at City, it is time for him to move on.
The 32-year-old is out of contract in 2024 and has lost his place in the starting XI, although did return to the lineup for the 3-0 FA Cup win over Sheffield United on Saturday (22 April).
Last week (17 April), sources told this site that Villa have set their sights on signing the defender this summer.
Unai Emery is now eyeing up a swoop for the right-back who is viewed as a proven performer who could immediately slot into the starting XI.
Yesterday (22 April), Football Insider revealed that the Villans have held internal discussions over a double bid for Walker and City teammate Kalvin Phillips.
McAvennie insisted Walker would be a good addition to Emery’s side.
“It is not about the money now for Walker and I would think he will still want to play football every week,” he told Football Insider.
“I always say it but I can’t understand anyone who would not want to play every week. If Pep can’t guarantee him game time, go to Aston Villa.
“It is a big club, a massive club and they are doing very well at the moment. I think it would be a good move for him.
“They have still got the big club mentality and he is the kind of player that the fans would love.“
