Aston Villa have sealed a “massive” piece of business by tying Tyrone Mings down to a new deal, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds United striker claimed that the England international has established himself as a talismanic figure for Dean Smith’s men since his arrival from Bournemouth in January of last year.
The 27-year-old recently put pen to paper on a contract extension that will keep him at Villa Park until at least 2024.
Whelan has hailed the agreement as a positive move from the Villans, as well as reiterating Mings’ importance on and off the field.
Speaking to Football Insider, when asked how significant the contract extension is, he said: “It’s massive.
“He’s been their talisman since he came in, in my opinion. He’s the one that has sured them up at the back – he’s the one who looks like the leader at the back and the leader in the changing room and out there on the field.
