Young To Be Axed, 26y/o gets first Gerrard start: Agbonlahor predicts Aston Villa XI v Norwich

Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Steven Gerrard will make two changes to the Aston Villa starting XI against Norwich City tonight (14 December).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed Emiliano Buendia and Anwar El Ghazi will replace Ashley Young and Marvelous Nakamba from the side that lost 1-0 to Liverpool at the weekend.

As quoted by Birmingham Live today, (December 14) Gerrard hinted Buendia was dropped against Liverpool with a view to making sure he is “fresh and ready” for the trip to Carrow Road.

Meanwhile, Nakamba is unavailable for the game due to a knee injury he picked up at Anfield.

Morgan Sanson replaced him just before the hour mark but Agbonlahor is not convinced he will earn his first Premier League start of the season.

“Sanson could get a chance, Villa are very light on numbers,” he told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“But I think tonight Steven Gerrard might go more attacking. A midfield of John McGinn, Douglas Luiz and Jacob Ramsey with El Ghazi in with Buendia and Ollie Watkins up top.

“He’s still got a lot of options there, Steven Gerrard. Sanson would do a good job if he was called upon.

“But 100 per cent, Buendia should come back in. Especially against his old club, he will want to put in a good performance. I can see him coming back into the side and hopefully he has a good game tonight.”

El Ghazi has only played 19 minutes of football in two substitute appearances under Gerrard.

The winger, 26, provided an assist in the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace last month (27 November) – Gerrard’s first away game in charge.
