Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Philippe Coutinho is “frustrated” at Aston Villa and he will not be at the club next season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed Coutinho’s wages are not worth the investment given his recent performances.
The 29-year-old has not scored or provided an assist in his last five Premier League games and did not finish the 90 minutes in the last three.
The Brazilian moved to Villa on loan for the rest of the season in January and they have an option to make the deal permanent.
“The hard thing with Coutinho is that sometimes when I watch him play some of the other players are not on his wavelength,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.
“He needs players that can get onto one-twos with him. You saw when he was on his game that he was unbelievable.
“He’s probably getting a bit frustrated as well, he’s used to playing with superstars.
“It’s a tough one for Gerrard. Look at the wages he might be asking for, I just can’t see it happening.
“They can but they probably don’t want to pay anyone over £150,000-a-week, to be honest.
“It’s about the return. If he was getting a goal or an assist every game then it’s deserved but if you’re going five games without then it’s hard to see where that investment in wages is going to get you.
“Especially when they’ve got Buendia who they brought in for £30million on the bench.
“It’s a big decision for the club to make in the summer.”
