Aston Villa news: Hutton tips Davis to play big role in PL return

Alan Hutton has tipped Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis to get a chance to shine when the Premier League season resumes next week.

The former Villa and Scotland full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the 22-year-old will get more game time thanks to the change of rules regarding substitutes for the final 10 games of the campaign.

Davis has been on the fringes of the senior side at Villa this season, with just three League Cup starts in his 13 appearances across all competitions.

However, with manager Dean Smith now able to make five substitutions, rather than three, Hutton believes that Davis will be given his chance to prove himself out on the pitch.

Asked by Football Insider if he thought the striker would get more game time when the season kicks off, Hutton said: “I think he will, obviously with the change of subs from three to five – it’s going to be difficult, there are so many games it’ll be difficult for all teams.

“I think the rotation thing will be massive, everybody will play their part. With him, it’s just stay fit, get your minutes on the pitch and just show everybody how good you actually can be.

“He will get a chance, I’m absolutely sure he’ll get a chance, as will other people. It’s down to him to go and prove it. He’s had his chance in the past but injuries have hampered him a little bit. Hopefully he can go and do it.”

Davis has scored once this season, with the centre-forward hitting the back of the net against Crewe in the League Cup.

He has eight Premier League appearances under his belt, all of which have come from the substitutes’ bench.
