Aston Villa news: Whelan tips Mings to leave amid Everton interest

Noel Whelan has tipped Tyrone Mings to leave Aston Villa this summer if they get relegated amid growing Everton interest.

The former Leeds United forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, heaped praise on the 27-year-old and suggested that he would be a good signing for any Premier League side.

Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Everton have made an approach to sign the England international.

The centre-half has made 33 appearances in a difficult season for the Claret and Blue and scored twice.

Whelan claimed that the Englishman’s price tag should be in a similar region to Brighton defender and Leeds loanee Ben White.

“I think £30million would be a fair price for Mings,” he told Football Insider.

“When you look at Ben White being tagged at £35million, Tyrone Mings should be around a similar price.

“Mings will want to be in the Premier League. If Villa get relegated he will not want another season in the Championship. If they do there will be an exodus of players at Villa unfortunately.

“Mings has the right attitude, a fantastic defender and he was the difference for them last season. He would make a positive impact on any side.”

Football Insider understands that Brighton have slapped a £35million price tag on White after an impressive season at Championship leaders Leeds.

White has made 43 appearances in all competitions and has been integral to a Marcelo Bielsa defence that has recorded the most clean sheets in the division.
