Everton set sights on signing Aston Villa colossus – Exclusive

Everton are lining up a move for Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings, Football Insider understands.

The Merseysiders are in the market for a left-sided centre-back in the upcoming window and the England international is on their target list.

An Everton source has told Football Insider that the club have already expressed an interest in Mings, 27, and will be keeping close tabs on him as Villa’s top-flight status hangs in the balance.

The 2019 summer signing from Bournemouth is expected to push for a move if Villa fail to stay up this season.

Dean Smith’s side are 19th in the Premier League and four points adrift of 17th-placed Watford with three matches remaining.

Mings has been one of the star players at Villa this season and his reputation has been considerably enhanced despite the team’s troubles.

The giant centre-back has started 30 of their 35 Premier League matches and been impressive even though they have shipped 65 goals.

It is the second worst in the division behind only Norwich City, who have already been relegated.

Mings has reignited his career since joining Villa initially on loan in January of last year.

He was integral to the team’s promotion via the play-offs and was signed permanently from Bournemouth last summer for a fee rising to £26m.

In other Everton news, a defender at the club has been told to find a new club after devastating blow.
