Bent – Terry will have helped Traore deal

Darren Bent believes that John Terry will have played a big part in getting Bertrand Traore to sign for Aston Villa.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Villa and England striker suggests that the 25-year-old was not even on the club’s radar when the transfer window opened but that a deal presented itself over the summer.

Villa confirmed over the weekend that the Burkina Faso international had put pen to paper on a four-year contract to move from Olympique Lyonnais.

Traore and Terry shared a dressing room during their time together at Chelsea before they both left Stamford Bridge in 2017.

Bent believes that the winger will be a much better player now than he was with the Blues and that the Villa assistant manager will have helped get a deal over the line.

Bent told Football Insider: “I’m sure John Terry spoke to him and helped him out with where to go and all that.

“When they were looking in the market he probably wasn’t even on their radar. John Terry will probably know him and I’m sure he’s probably a better player now than he was back then with John Terry.

“He was quite young and to be fair, him trying to get into that Chelsea team, he had a lot of competition and he struggled a little bit. Maybe going to Lyon helped settle him down.

“I think John Terry will definitely help.”

Terry and Traore played four times alongside one another at Chelsea, with just two of those games in the Premier League.

The winger scored four times in 16 appearances for the Blues, while he netted 33 goals in 126 games for Lyon.
