Devastating Blow – McAvennie reacts to Aston Villa injury setback

Aston Villa can’t welcome back Leon Bailey quick enough after he suffered another injury setback.

That’s according to former Villains striker Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the attacker’s latest blow.

Bailey, 24, has not started a match for Villa since signing from Bayer Leverkusen for £25million in the summer window.

On Friday, Dean Smith confirmed Bailey was out of yesterday’s clash against Wolves, which his team lost 3-2, after failing to recover from a knock he picked up against Everton.

It was previously stated the attacker would be available after having the chance to recover during the international break.

McAvennie has been blown away by Bailey’s start to life at Villa and insisted the club need him in the side if they want to be successful.

“They need him,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“We know how good he is. He looks like that Grealish replacement.

“This guy has had an instant impact, he’s come in and hit the ground running.

“You can’t really say that about the other summer signings but I’m not having a go at them.

“The crowd look like they respond to Bailey and having a player like that is so important. They struggle without him.

“He can’t come back quick enough. If Villa are going to be successful, I think he will be a big part of that. He’s the key.”

The winger has already missed four Premier League clashes with muscle problems.

Bailey has impressed in his limited cameos, scoring once and assisting once in 85 league minutes.
