Aston Villa are considering a move for Man City star Aymeric Laporte, sources have told Football Insider.
Villa are in the market for another centre-back and Laporte ticks a lot of boxes for Unai Emery due to his Premier League experience and ability to play on the left-side of a partnership.
It would take a decent fee to bring the 29-year-old to Villa Park and Emery is hoping to persuade him to join but it is a difficult deal to get over the line and Laporte wants to play Champions League football next season.
The Spain international’s contract at the Etihad runs until 2025 after he signed an extension in 2019.
Earlier this month (9 June), Football Insider revealed that City are planning to accept offers for the defender this summer as he is seen as surplus to requirements as long as Pep Guardiola brings in a top class replacement.
RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol is seen as the ideal player to strengthen City’s back line and the club have held initial talks with the club over a deal.
On Friday (23 June), Football Insider revealed that Laporte has rejected a summer switch to Tottenham and is believed to be uninterested in joining the London club.

The centre-back made just 12 Premier League appearances for the Sky Blues this season and just 24 appearances overall in a campaign that saw them bag the treble.
Guardiola already has plenty of options at centre-back including Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, John Stones and Manuel Akanji, as well as Laporte, and has alternated between them throughout the season.
