Hutton urges Smith to launch Wilson raid

Alan Hutton has suggested that Aston Villa may be in the hunt to sign Callum Wilson from Bournemouth this summer.

The Sun report that Bournemouth could sell Wilson for as little as £10million this summer as they look to get his £110,000-a-week wages off the books following relegation.

Wilson has 126 Premier League appearances under his belt as well as four England caps.

Hutton believes that Villa could be among the chasing pack for the hitman after their own struggles up front during the 2019/20 campaign.

Asked if he thought Villa should be chasing Wilson, Hutton told Football Insider: “You’re absolutely spot on, if I’m someone like Villa and they’re getting a Premier League goalscorer who’s proved that over X amount of seasons, of course you’d be in for him.

“I think £10million is a great price so you’re totally right, these are the type of players that Villa, to move on and improve, they need the experience of playing in the league – I think that’s where they’re at at the moment.

“They maybe need two or three signings from the Premier League to really help them drive forward and he’d be a great asset to have. We’re talking about an England international – that’s a hard thing to do so he’s obviously got something.”

Aston VIlla striker Mbwana Samatta

Wilson scored nine goals across all competitions for the Cherries during the 2019/20 campaign, with all but one struck in the Premier League.

Jack Grealish was Villa’s top scorer in the league with eight strikes, while centre-forwards Wesley and Aly Samatta netted five and one respectively.
