Alex McLeish claims that Henri Lansbury will have to “step down a level” in the January transfer window after being left out of the Aston Villa Premier League squad.
The former Villa and Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the 30-year-old’s agents “will be working to get him out” of the club after his fall down the pecking order under Dean Smith.
As detailed on the official Premier League website, Lansbury has not been included in the Villans’ 25-man squad after he failed to secure a move away before last week’s domestic transfer deadline.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Lansbury had been told he was free to find a new club as Villa looked to get him off their wage bill.
McLeish insists that the midfielder must brush off the disappointment of being snubbed and focus on remaining in good shape ahead of what he believes is likely to be a Championship move in the winter window.
McLeish told Football Insider: “Henri’s just got to knuckle down, he’s a decent player and if he gets to January window – and now he’s got no option but to keep himself in good condition – his agents will be working to get him out where, if he has to step down a level, it doesn’t matter.
