Mohamed Salah will be desperate to start against AC Milan as he targets fresh Liverpool record despite Jurgen Klopp’s plan to rotate his squad ahead of Aston Villa

Liverpool face one final Champions League group stage fixture tonight before attention turns to the all-important knockout stage of the competition.

The Reds have already secured top spot in Group B ahead of their trip to the San Siro to face AC Milan this evening – a match that will be broadcast live on talkSPORT from 7pm.

Mo Salah could break a Liverpool record against AC Milan

With a frantic fixture list in store through December and January, Jurgen Klopp has already hinted at making numerous changes for the clash as he looks to give his fringe players an opportunity to shine.

Speaking ahead of the game, Klopp said: “We have to rotate, we will rotate.

“The medical department would smash me if I played the same side again, so I will make changes.”

That means that the likes of Kostas Tsimikas, Takumi Minamino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Divock Origi could all be offered a rare chance in the starting XI, with Klopp all-but confirming that the Belgian striker will be in.

Klopp doesn’t often use Origi, but when he does, the Belgian hasn’t let his manager down often

He said: “It’s pretty likely (he’ll start).

“Moan is not the right word, but he knocks on my door and we talk from time to time. It’s about letting things happen.

“Div played behind Mo (Salah), Bobby (Firmino) and Sadio (Mane). It doesn’t mean you’re not world class if you don’t start for us. It’s a nice story, let’s carry on from here.

“He’s a positive person. Talented, shoots left and right, really quick, in the air a monster. An interesting package.

“But that doesn’t mean you are a constant starter for Liverpool FC, that is how it is. There are worse things in life than not being a regular starter here.”

It means Liverpool can rest their best players, but one star will be adamant that he wants to be in from the off against the Italian giants.

Jurgen Klopp will surely be keen to rest his star man at the San Siro

Mohamed Salah has enjoyed a wonderful season so far and will be a vital part of the club’s journey if they’re to challenge for the Premier League and Champions League trophy.

His impact in Europe has been huge this term with the Egyptian having already scored six times in the group stage – a tally that matches the club record set by teammate Roberto Firmino in 2017/18.

A goal against AC Milan will see him break that record and become Liverpool’s top scorer in the group stage.

While Klopp will no doubt be tempted to rest his star man in Milan the hope for Salah will be that he has the chance to further cement his name in the Anfield history books.
