Solskjaer ready to ‘challenge’ Man Utd chief Ed Woodward in transfer market as he plots Jadon Sancho and Grealish moves

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER is preparing to “challenge” Ed Woodward to spend big on the “right targets” this summer, according to reports.

Manchester United are currently riding the crest of a wave, mounting a serious push for the top four having gone 16 games undefeated in all competitions.

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly challenging Ed Woodward to spend big again this summer

The latest of these matches saw them sweep Bournemouth aside 5-2 on Saturday, with stunning attacking performances from the likes of Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

But according to the Standard, Red Devils boss Solskjaer is continuously reminding Woodward that he needs further reinforcements – with Jadon Sancho still on the agenda.

United have been heavily linked with the 20-year-old Borussia Dortmund forward all season.

But things appeared to have cooled recently, when it was claimed that they would not pay more than £50million for the young England international.

Having played a big part in the improvements of Greenwood, Martial, Rashford et al, it might be expected by some quarters that Solskjaer should just keep working with what he’s got.

The Norwegian, however, sees it differently, and believes that the club’s policy of spending big on the “right” targets must continue.

Since his arrival, Solskjaer has spent around £190m on Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Dan James and Bruno Fernandes.

And if he has his way this big spending will continue this summer, with Jack Grealish also a potential arrival.

Manchester United’s front-men have been in excellent form of late

Speaking ahead of their win over the Cherries, Solskjaer admitted that his side were still a “couple” of players short of challenging the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

He said: “I don’t know how many points we’re behind the top two, but Gary (Neville)’s right – there’s definitely not going to be any complacency and thinking, ‘We’ve cracked it’ because we’ve got so much to do.

“It’s an enjoyable journey. We can see improvements but, yes, we need to make one or two – or more – very good decisions. It’s going to be an important summer, definitely.”
