Paul Robinson has slammed referee Michael Oliver for his “unbelievable” decision to disallow Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey’s strike against Leicester.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England number one said he “cannot find an argument” for the call despite being “a big member of the goalkeeper’s union”.
Ramsey thought he had put Steven Gerrard’s side 2-1 up only for Oliver to rule it out after VAR intervened.

As shown on Sky Sports (5 December), the referee deemed Leicester keeper Schmeichel to be in control of the ball.
As stipulated by the FA, a goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball with the hand(s) when the ball is between the hands or between the hand and any surface.
When asked for his thoughts on the call, Robinson told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs: “It used to be that you have to have two hands on the ball.
“Schmeichel only had one hand on the ball.
“I am a big member of the goalkeeper’s union. I back goalkeepers when I can but I find it very hard to in this instance.
“Schmeichal didn’t perform particularly well in the game. I think he should have done better with [Ezri] Konsa’s header at the back post.
“With the Ramsey one, yes, he has put his hand on the ball but I cannot see how he was in control of the ball. The pitch was wet and slippery. There is nothing to say his hand would not have just slipped off the ball.
“I cannot find an argument for him, even from a goalkeeper’s point of view.
“I understand why he’s come out and said he was in control though. If it was me I would want the goal disallowed.
“But, let’s be honest, the referee cannot deem that he is in full control of the ball. I could not believe the decision really.”
