Kevin Phillips has heaped praise on Aston Villa defender Matty Cash for his “flawless” performances this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Claret and Blue said that he doubted the 23-year-old when he first signed for the club but admitted that he has now been proved wrong.
Cash has started all eight of Villa’s Premier League matches this season, playing an integral part in emphatic wins over English giants Liverpool and Arsenal.
Villa signed the full-back from Nottingham Forest for a fee of £14million in September and he immediately established himself as Dean Smith’s first choice right-back.
Phillips has been shocked by the speed at which Cash has settled in the Premier League and hailed Villa’s recruitment department for identifying him.
“I hold my hands up,” he told Football Insider.
