Pundit shares ‘huge’ Carlos claim after Aston Villa ‘miracle’

It would be a “miracle” if Diego Carlos is soon ready to return to the Aston Villa first team.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the defender’s potential return.

The 29-year-old arrived at Villa Park in June after a £26million transfer from Spanish outfit Sevilla.

But the centre-back has not featured for the Villans since he suffered an ACL injury in only his second Premier League appearance back in August.

On 6 December, Birmingham Live reported that the defender has joined his teammates in Dubai for their mid-season training camp and could be back as early as the new year.

McManus is concerned by this development.

“He is meant to be out for the season, how does that work? McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“This guy came in with loads of excitement and then he has that horrible injury. It’s awful, it’s the worst thing that can happen to a player.

“I’m sure I remember hearing that was out for the season so they are now saying he could be back in a few weeks, I’m not sure.

“If that is the case then that’s great for Villa, they could do with a big new centre back in there. Again, I guess you could say it’s like a new signing.

“But you do not want to rush this guy back even if you need him really badly. If, by some miracle, he is ready to play in a few weeks, you can’t have him breaking down again as soon as he plays.

“Villa need to be so careful here.

“This could give them a huge boost or they could make things worse.”
